Novomikhailovsky residents believe that flooding occurred because of clogged bed of Nechepsukho River

At present, water completely left houses in the flooded village of Novomikhailovsky of the Tuapse District of the Krasnodar Territory. According to the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), about 1500 persons, 570 houses, 14 children's camps, a hospital, a school, and a kindergarten are in the area of the flooding. Many residents of the coastal village believe that the flooding was caused by cluttered bed of the Nechepsukho River.

According to the MfE, at present, 150 patients, including 14 children, have been discharged or evacuated from the central district hospital to other hospitals. At night of August 23, 7870 person and 9 important social objects remain without power supply in the villages of Lermontovo and Novomikhailovsky.

In the village, Lenin, Molodezhnaya, and Rechnaya Streets are damaged. Most of the streets were not affected by the flooding: stores are open, and there is a street trading, despite the stormy sea and dirty waves, some people are swimming and sunbathing on the beach.

Local residents recall in details the events of last night. "It all started a 2:00 a.m. I lay at home, and my wife was at the surgical department of the hospital. She called me and asked me whether the water did not go. I looked around and noticed no water. And then, the water suddenly flew with a roar," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent listened to the description of the flooding, made by pensioner Gennady Zaika, who resided on the second floor of a three-storey building in No. 2 in Molodezhnaya Street.

"It's the human factor. Tornado is a tornado; however, they built up the entire river, and there are no drainage wells. The water had nowhere to flow, and it rushed straight along Lenin Street. Both the school and the hospital buildings were flooded. The mouth of the river is blocked; they made the yacht club and the diving centre," the source said.

"In the house, all the furniture, the boiler, and the pump have been damaged. The refrigerator was taken by the stream, and it turned over," says Galina Tretyakova, a resident of the house in Rechnaya Street.

The disaster affected stores, located in Lenin Street. In one of them, in the store "Anyuta", at the night of the flooding, Tarlan Abdulaev, the owner himself, worked as a seller. Goods in the store were destroyed, and the equipment was damaged. The owner of the store estimates the damage from the disaster at 500,000 roubles and hopes for the support of the authorities. "Half an hour prior to your coming, we were visited by Governor Tkachov. He promised to help," the man said.
