Brazil donates 100,000 US dollars to help children of Armenia

The government of Brazil has donated 100,000 US dollars to the UNICEF representative office in Armenia to improve the nutrition of children.

On August 24, the funds were donated by Marcela Maria Nicodemos, Ambassador of Brazil to Armenia, to Henrietta Ahrens, UNICEF Representative.

Henriette Ahrens has stated that the funds will be spent on programmes to improve children's nutrition. According to her, in several last years, the nutrition of children in Armenia deteriorated. According to the studies, in average, height and weight of 20 percent of children in Armenia are not appropriate to their age.

The money will go to the UNICEF programmes, carried out, in particular, in the Syunik Region, and in the Tavush and Gegarkunik Regions.

Karine Saribekyan, a representative of the Ministry of Health, has also highlighted the relevance of the problem about the nutrition of children. "The problem is not that children are hungry, and the problem is that the diet of children does not contain enough essential micronutrients, such as proteins," the "NEWS.am" quotes Karine Saribekyan as saying.

"Malnutrition of children is probably the only area with gaps," the "Armenpress" quotes Karine Saribekyan as saying.
