No less than 24 people became victims of an armed conflict in Northern Caucasus from August, 20, till August, 26

During last week, August, 20, to August, 26, 2012, at least 24 people became victims of an armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the totals of calculation by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own materials and information from other open sources. 15 out of them were killed and 9 got wounded.

There are 7 law enforcement officers among those lost, all of them perished in Dagestan. 7 supposed members of paramilitary groups were liquidated: 6 of them in Dagestan and one in KBR. One gunman was wounded and one civilian perished in Dagestan.

ASSAULTS AT LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL

On August, 20, unidentified people in Dagestan fired upon a motorcade of the Ministry of Defense of Russia while it was passing through the town of Khasavyurt, a policeman from the escort of the motorcade got wounded.

Active participant of armed underground Khizri Gadjiev was killed in Khasavyurt on August, 21. The policemen noticed a suspicious man in one of the streets of the town who opened fire at the moment of inspection of documents and was killed by backfire. None of the police personnel got injured.

A soldier of statutory service perished as a result of firing at a remote post where servicemen of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in Tsuntinsky district of Dagestan were on duty. The incident took place in the morning of August, 20.

On August, 21, two men’s bodies with gunshot wounds in their heads were found in the courtyard of house No 206, Magomed Gadjiev street. The men were identified as officers of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the republic.

In the evening of August, 21, unidentified people fired upon a flying squad of Road Patrol Service in Makhachkala as a result of which a policeman got wounded. The unknown persons opened fire at the moment of the police officers’ attempt of inspection of a car.

On August, 22, a police captain died as a result of firing by an unidentified person in the courtyard of his own house in Babyurt district of Dagestan.

A military man was killed on August, 23, after firing upon a remote post in Tsuntinsky district of Dagestan. Two more law enforcement officers were hospitalized. The incident happened near the settlement of Mokok at the moment of inspection of documents of a KamAz driver when heavy fire from self-firers at the officers was suddenly opened from the basket of the truck. One of those who shot was killed by backfire. During combing the territory a body of another gunman who escaped from the scene of the skirmish was found.

An armed attack at a motorcade of Inner Troops was committed in Dagestan on August, 24. One person perished and another got wounded. The incident took place at 16:00, in the highway Khasavurt – Baba-Yurt.

At night of August, 25, law enforcement officers in Dagestan killed two supposed gunmen who opened fire from a car in the settlement of Shamkhal, the suburbs of Makhachkala. There were no victims or injured persons among law enforcement personnel. One of the killed men was identified and later the other, too.

On August, 25, an armed confrontation with participants of paramilitary groups occurred in Karabudakhkent district of Dagestan. The battle took place near the settlement of Gurbuki. During operative search actions fire at law enforcement officers was opened from a woodland. One of the attackers was killed by backfire. There were no victims or injured people among law enforcement personnel.

In the evening of August, 25, unidentified people fired upon a police flying squad in the town of Khasavyurt. One of the law enforcement officers perished as a result of the incident and three more got wounded.

EXPLOSIONS AND ACTS OF TERROR

A resident of Derbent got gravely wounded during an attempt of manufacturing a home-made explosive device (HED). The manufacturer of the HED born in 1988 residing in the place where the explosion happened was taken to municipal hospital of Derbent with avulsion of both hands and lower extremities.

SPECIAL AND COUNTER-TERRORIST OPERATIONS

On August, 22, a counter-terrorist operation regime was enacted in part of Baksan district of Kabardino-Balkaria. Law enforcement officers were searching for the people who shot at a policeman on August, 21, in the settlement of Islambei. During a skirmish that occurred after the assault at the policeman one of the attackers was killed and the rest escaped. Identity of the killed man was established.

ASSAULTS AT CIVILIANS

Magomed Kazimagomedov, Head of a rural settlement of Liahlya, Dagestan, perished on August, 21, as a result of firing.

DETENTIONS

Sheihmagomed Magomedkerimov, resident of Derbent aged 21, was detained by the personnel of municipal Department of Interior Affairs on August, 20. According to his father Zainudin Magomedkerimov, his location is unknown.

On August, 23, a resident of Shali district of Chechnya was detained by members of power ministries for suspicion of complicity in the gunmen’s activities. An inquiry is currently going on concerning him.

On August, 24, law enforcement officers in Nalchik detained three residents of Baksan district of Kabardino-Balkaria who were transporting arms, ammunition and drugs and also a resident of the settlement of Dugulubei involved in a number of grave and especially grave crimes, including assaults at law enforcement personnel.

Resident of Malgobek Tamara Gorbakoba stated that her husband Rustam Evloev working as a Road Patrol Service inspector was kidnapped by unknown armed people while staying with his relatives in Chechnya. Later it became known that Evloev was in Chechen Republic since August, 17, and on August, 25, he was taken to a temporary holding facility for suspicion of committing crimes stipulated by several clauses of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including complicity in the gunmen’s activities.

KIDNAPPING

On August, 22, Murat Abazov and Arthur Abazov were kidnapped in the settlement of Dugulubei, Baksan district of Kabardino-Balkaria, resident of the republic Edward Abazov reported. He appealed to law enforcement bodies and human rights activists asking to help find out his son and nephew’s location.

On August, 23, unidentified people in the town of Malgobek kidnapped an officer of local Department of Interior Affairs.

On August, 23, unknown armed and masked people wearing camouflage uniforms beat up and kidnapped a thirty-three-years-old Shamil Abdurashidov, Director of “Dagselkhozchimia” subsidiary unitary enterprise, his brother Khizri Abdurashidov reported.
