ICRC is searching 2370 people in Northern Caucasus

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was addressed by relatives of 2370 people who are reported missing in Northern Caucasus. The figure was announced by the North-Caucasian representative office of the ICRC on the International Day of Missing People, which is marked on August 30.

"Today, many parts of the world mark the International Day of Missing People. Relatives of the countless number of people missing in the context of armed conflicts and other emergencies, live in agonizing uncertainty. They know nothing about the fate of their loved ones, despite the fact that the relevant authorities, in accordance with the international humanitarian law, are obliged to do everything possible to clear out the fate of missing persons," says the statement of the ICRC, received by the "Caucasian Knot".

The ICRC has also noted that today many countries around the world plan a number of activities intended to preserve the memory of those whose fate is still unknown.

"For various reasons, unfortunately, sometimes people disappear. In the last 20 years, Northern Caucasus has registered about 7000 kidnapped or missing persons; they all were kidnapped or disappeared in different places and under different circumstances. Although the reasons for disappearance of these people are different, the grief that into their families is the same," says the statement of the Ingush human rights organization MASHR, posted by a human rights activist Magomed Mutsolgov in his blog that he runs on the "Caucasian Knot".
