Volgograd: Komsomol members hold action in defence of swine breeders

Today, in the building of the government of the Volgograd Region, activists of the regional branch of the Communist Youth Union (known as Komsomol) held a protest action against liquidation of pigs in the region because of the outbreak of the African swine fever (ASF). Two activists were detained.

A group of young men, one of whom was dressed as a pig and two more wearing paper piglet noses, came today to the building of the regional government with a petition, written on behalf of the fabulous three pigs and addressed to the Governor.

The petition demands to "stop the ruthless and wanton liquidation" of pigs and "put an end to the quarantine chaos in the Volgograd Region." The Komsomol members also asked to compensate for actual losses to farmers and collective farmers affected by the ASF.

The police let the "fairytale characters" into the government building; and the Komsomol members went to the reception of the Governor, where they left their petition, the edition V1 reports.

However, at the exit of the building, two of the activists were detained and taken to the police station, where the video of the visit of "piglets" to the government was confiscated from them.

"It was a childish action, and, in my opinion, very kind. The guys were calm and offended nobody. In my opinion, they broke no laws; and I don't understand why they were detained," the IA "Vysota-102" quotes Nikolai Parshin, the leader of Communists in the Volgograd Regional Duma.
