Nagorno-Karabakh starts celebrating Republic Proclamation Day

The celebrations in Nagorno-Karabakh in the context of the 21st anniversary of proclamation of independence have begun today in the schools of Stepanakert, where lessons of courage were conducted. The festivities will continue tomorrow, on September 2.

In the morning on September 2, military columns will march through the main streets of Stepanakert and district capitals of the republic. People will lay flowers at the Stepanakert Memorial Complex and visit the city of Shusha.

The celebratory events will be attended by a delegation from Armenia, headed by Ovik Abramyan, Speaker of the Parliament, the edition "NEWS.am" reports.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) was proclaimed on September 2, 1991; and on January 6, 1992, after the referendum on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, where 99.89 percent of respondents spoke in favour of independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, declared itself an independent state. Azerbaijan does not recognize the independence of the NKR and considers it a part of its territory. The international status of the NKR remains unregulated. UN member states do not recognize it as an independent state. The resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly have reaffirmed the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
