In Baku, 150 persons hospitalized with poisoning from shopping centre "Bina"; all of them already discharged from hospital

According to the preliminary information, the cause of human poisoning by carbon monoxide, which occurred in the Baku shopping centre "Bina" on September 16, was a fault in the electric generators. In total, about 150 persons were affected, and they were hospitalized. Most of them were discharged by this morning after they were rendered a medical assistance.

Earlier, it was reported that on September 16, in the Garadag District of Baku, 80 persons were injured in the fire in the large shopping centre "Bina", and that some of them are in serious condition.

The Garadag District Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan instituted the criminal case on fact of the mass poisoning of people with carbon monoxide under Article 314 (negligence) of the Criminal Code, and the investigation is underway.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Garadag District Prosecutor's Office that the preliminary cause of the accident is a fault in the electric generators of the commercial facility, and the number of persons, who got poisoned by carbon monoxide, had reached about 150 persons, who either already left the hospital or would be discharged soon.

The source at the Prosecutor's Office has also said that at present, there are no detainees in the case.

Tarlan Babirov, Chief Doctor of the Baku City Clinical Centre, also denies that the persons, who got poisoned in the shopping centre "Bina" and who were hospitalized to the Clinical Centre, are in serious condition. According to him, on September 16, in total, 18 persons were brought to the Clinical Centre, and by this morning, all of them were discharged after they were rendered necessary medical assistance.

Representatives of the administration of the shopping centre "Bina" refuse to comment on the incident and the reasons for the use of generators.

However, one of the traders, working at the shopping centre, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on September 15, supply of electricity to the stores was discontinued, and on the next day, many tenants decided to use the generators, running on liquid fuel.

Till present, no comments from the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of Azerbaijan are available.

In his turn, Tanrverdi Mustafaev, the head of the press service of the energy distribution company "JSC (Joint-Stock Company) Bakyelektrikshebeke" (Baku Electrical Network) stated that the supply of electricity to the shopping centre "Bean" was not discontinued.

Today, the shopping centre "Bean" started working in the normal mode, and the supply of electricity was resumed.
