A new Chief of Gldan prison apointed in Georgia
A new Chief of Gldan prison No 8 of Tbilisi the news of cruel treatment of prisoners in which appeared several days ago was appointed in Georgia. There is also a new Head of Department of Execution of Sentences, representative of the Apparat of Prime Minister of Georgia Shota Utiashvili reported. The convicts in Gldan prison are having meetings with their relatives who wish to receive evidence that no violence is used against their people.
The office of Head of Department of Execution of Sentences, probation and legal aid earlier occupied by David Chakua is now held by Giorgy Lortkipanidze. Shota Utiashvili did not mention the name of the new Chief of Gldan prison No 8 but declared that the management of other prisons and penal facilities of Georgia would also be changed, "Novosti-Georgia" news agency reports.
In Gldan prison No 8 itself the convicts' meetings with their relatives are going on. By this morning 600 such meetings have already passed. All in all 800 persons who wanted to be convinced that their relatives were alive and not undergoing violence applied for a short-term meeting. The prison administration states that the meetings will not be stopped until all comers meet with the convicts, "Georgia Online" reports.
