Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya cancel eviction of hostels in Grozny

The Chechen Prosecutor's Office has recognized as illegal the actions of the Republic's Department of the Russian Federal Property Management Agency (Rosimuschestvo), aimed at forced eviction of residents out of hostels in Grozny. The Department bosses have been warned.

In August, residents of a hostel located in the Zavodskoy District of Grozny turned to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". They reported that the Territorial Department of "Rosimuschestvo" demanded from them to abandon, before September 1, their occupied premises, citing that the building did not comply with fire safety regulations.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the bosses of the "Rosimuschestvo" demanded from citizens to vacate the premises not in one but in three hostels. "These actions are in fact illegal," a source from the Prosecutor's Office told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, in accordance with the law the obligation to maintain the property rests with the property owner – in this case, the "Rosimuschestvo" for Chechnya. After a check, the actions of the bosses of "Rosimuschestvo" were found illegal; and the head of the Department Musit Shidaev was warned about the inadmissibility of violating the regulations.

"Thus, an attempt of illegal eviction of more than 200 families, who have no housing of their own, out of three hostels was stopped," said the source from the Prosecutor's Office.

So far, the "Caucasian Knot" has no comments of the bosses of the "Rosimuschestvo" regarding the decision of the Chechen Prosecutor's Office.
