"Georgian Dream" wins elections to Supreme Council of Adzharia

At the elections to the Supreme Council of Adzharia, the coalition "Bidzina Ivanishvili-Georgian Dream" gained 48.5 percents of the votes, and the "United National Movement" Party gained 44.8 percent of votes under the proportional system. This was reported by the Election Commission of the Adzharian Autonomous Republic.

On October 1, along with the voting on the parliamentary elections, Georgia also held the voting at the elections of deputies to the Supreme Court of Adzharia. The Supreme Council of the Adzharian Autonomy will be consisted of 21 members. Of them, six will be majoritarian deputies, and the remaining 15 will enter the legislation body in accordance with party lists. To get seats by proportional system, parties and coalitions are to overcome the 5-percent electoral threshold. The elections to the Supreme Council of Adzharia involve nine political parties and two electoral coalitions.

Let us remind you that by noon of October 2, according to the information from 86 electoral precincts, the "United National Movement", the Mikhail Saakashvili's party, took the lead. It gained 47.8 percent of the votes by proportional system.

The information that the oppositional coalition took the lead was published after counting the data from 170 electoral precincts of four districts. In total, there are six electoral precincts in the territory of Adzharia.

The coalition "Georgy Targamadze-Christian Democratic Union" gained 3.9 percent of votes, the Labour Party gained 1.3 percent, and the "New Right-Wing" gained 0.8 percent of the votes.

According to the Supreme Election Commission of Adzharia, in the republic, 183,338 voters out of registered 304,930 voters attended the elections. The turnout was 60.12 percent, the "News-Georgia" reports.

Besides, according to the Supreme Electoral Commission, no serious violations were recorded in the voting process in the autonomy, excluding minor violations in five out of the six electoral precincts. The Keda District without any complaints is an exception, the "PIK" TV Channel reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the observers pointed to violations in the voting process in Batumi. In particular, they mentioned several recorded cases, when a signature of another person was put opposite to the name of the voter in the list. This was reported by Tamar Chugoshvili, a representative of the Georgian NGO "Georgian Young Lawyers' Association" (GYLA). And, according to local journalist Mariana Kupreishvili, one of the most common violations in Batumi was an attempt to organize a "carousel". However, Mariana Kupreishvili believes that those violations have not affected much the election outcomes.
