In Baku, police detain 65 protesting believers

On October 5, in Baku, during the unsanctioned protest action of believers in front of the Ministry of Education, which grew into clashes between protesters and the police, 65 persons were detained. This was reported by the press service of the Baku City Prosecutor's Office and the Chief Police Department of the capital of Azerbaijan.

According to law enforcement agencies, "about 200 radical believers tried to hold an unsanctioned protest action in front of the Ministry of Education."

"Despite warnings to stop activities aimed at disturbing the public order, participants of the unsanctioned protest action continued unlawful acts. As a result of hostile acts, accompanied by the destruction of other people's property, traffic was disrupted for 40 minutes, and cars of citizens were damaged," states the report of the Baku City Prosecutor's Office and the Chief Police Department of the capital of Azerbaijan.

According to the police, the participants of the protest action rendered resistance law enforcement officers, "by using prepared wooden sticks and batons with sharp nails." As a result, according to official figures, 20 police officers got various injuries.

An operational team of prosecutors and police officers was formed to investigate the incident. At present, the investigatory actions are being conducted.
