Georgian CEC announces preliminary results of parliamentary elections

After the calculation of 100 percent of the votes 3,596,214 persons, who took part in the voting, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia has announced the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections. The block "Bidzina Ivanishvili-Georgian Dream" with 54.92 percent of votes became the leader of the election campaign.

The electoral block "Bidzina Ivanishvili-Georgian Dream" was supported by 1,181,284 voters. The "United National Movement", which gained 40.35 percent of the votes, was supported by 867,900 voters.

The electoral block "Georgy Targamadze-Christian-Democratic Movement" gained 2.04 percent. It was supported by 43,943 voters. The Labour Party gained 1.24 percent or 26,697 votes. The other parties were not able to gain even one percent of the votes.

To enter the Parliament of Georgia, political alliances are to overcome the five-percent electoral threshold. According to the preliminary information of the CEC, the new Parliament will include "Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia" (the leader is Bidzina Ivanishvili), the Republican Party (the leader is David Usupashvili), the Conservative Party (the leader is Zviad Dzidziguri), the "Our Georgia-Free Democrats" Party (the leader is Irakli Alasaniya), the "Industry Will Save Georgia" Party (the leader is Georgy Topadze), and the "National Forum" Party (the leader is Kakha Shartava), included in the electoral block "Bidzina Ivanishvili-Georgian Dream".

Besides, the "United National Movement" will also enter the Parliament. Being led by Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, the Party intends to work actively in the Parliament, and it will represent the parliamentary minority. Earlier, the Georgian President announced that his party went in opposition. He invited a representative of the coalition "Georgian Dream" to chair the Parliament and to form the government.
