Vladimir Putin's portrait fixed at one of mountain peaks of North Ossetia, bloggers express their indignation

A group of climbers from North Ossetia, who have accomplished an ascent to one of unnamed peaks of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, fixed there a portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Kazbek Khamitsaev, Chairman of the Republic's Climbing Federation, announced the intention to submit an application for naming the mountain peak as "Putin Peak". However, the proposal sparked strong criticism of bloggers in North Ossetia.

Kazbek Khamitsaev: application for naming mountain peak in North Ossetia as "Putin Peak" to be submitted

The group of climbers has accomplished the ascent to the mountain peak, located in the Digor Gorge in the territory of the National Park "Alania".

10 climbers have reached the mountain peak with height of 4150 meters, located in the Digor Gorge. This was reported by Kazbek Khamitsaev, Chairman of the Republic's Climbing Federation.

"On the wall, located near the mountain peak, they fixed the portrait of Vladimir Putin, with dimensions of four to six meters, made of high quality plastic," he said.

According to Kazbek Khamitsaev, they will submit an application to name the mountain peak as "Putin Peak", the "Interfax" reports.

Apart from the portrait of the Russian President, the climbers installed on the Greater Caucasian Mountain Range flags of the Russian Federation and North Ossetia, "the 15th Region" reports.

It should be noted that on October 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin celebrated his 60th birthday.

Bloggers of North Ossetia condemn initiative of climbers

"It is a shame already. We are fed up with this cult. We have not got rid of the old cult and the new one is being created. If you respect Putin it is your right; however, to bring a large portrait to the mountain to express congratulations is just a kind of perversion. Everyone has the right to personal opinion; however, I personally treat that initiative as a shame for the whole Ossetia," writes Alan Tskhurbaev in his blog "Ossetia and vicinities: inside story" at the "Caucasian Knot".

"Why you touch Digor Mountains? Who are you to rename them? Who?" asks beogor in his blog at the "Live Journal".

"Stalin returned with his cult," writes a blogger with the nickname roks_alana.

"And would they be strong enough to conquer one of the mountains in the territory of 'Elektrozink'? And that place would be appropriate for the portrait. However, I doubt that the high-quality creation would stay for a long time there, since those mountains contain nearly all toxic elements of the world," writes a blogger with the nickname ALIK.
