In Kropotkin, candidate to City Council from "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" beaten

In the evening of October 8, in the Krasnodar Territory, Lyudmila Barzdanes, the human rights defender and the candidate to the deputy of the Kropotkin City Council from the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party, was beaten. Her condition is assessed as of moderate severity. On October 10, she will be brought to Krasnodar.

Law enforcement agencies consider a question of initiation of the criminal case under Article 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (beating).

"The complaint was received yesterday, and it was registered at the book of registered accidents in the unit on duty. It was decided to conduct pre-investigation, while the question on initiation of criminal proceedings under Article 116 (beating) is under consideration," stated Denis Shustikov, a staff member of the press service of the Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

Colleagues of Lyudmila Barzdanes from the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" Party believe that she was attacked because of her political activities.

"According to her, the man, who beat her, said: 'You will not be a deputy,' and at the same time he was talking with someone by mobile phone to receive instructions. Lyudmila Ivanovna got brain concussion and haematoma. Tomorrow, she will be brought to Krasnodar. Her condition is assessed as of moderate severity," stated Denis Khmelevskoy, Secretary of the Regional Branch of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" Party.

Andrei Rudenko, the State Duma deputy and the leader of the Regional Branch of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" Party, took the investigation into the attack on the candidate from the Party under his personal control.
