Poti port workers stops striking

Today, late at night, the protest action of port workers of the city of Poti (Georgia) was stopped after negotiations with leaders of Company "IPM Poti Terminal". The parties reached an agreement, and the administration considered demands of the workers to be reasonable.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on October 10, about 200 port workers went on a strike. They demanded better working conditions, compliance with safety norms, and decent wages. On October 11, their claims were supported by the Association of Trade Unions.

According to Anatoly Chidjaladze, the representative of marine trade unions of Georgia, the port administration will consider a number of demands of the workers on strike: increase of wages, provision with health insurance, improvement of working conditions at quays No. 4 and 14, payment of wages for seven months, and payment of the additional load, the "Georgia Online" reports.

The negotiations between the workers and the company management were attended by representatives of trade unions and Eka Beseliya, the deputy in Poti from the coalition "Georgian Dream".

This morning, the strikers got to work. The claims will be considered individually and satisfied till November 1; however, it has been already decided that the workers, who took part in the strike, will not be fired, the "PIK" TV Channel reports.
