Attempt on Khasavyurt Mayor committed in Dagestan

On October 12, in Khasavyurt, at a roadside in Yuzhnaya Street, an unidentified explosive device detonated at the moment, when the car of Saigidpasha Umakhanov, City Mayor, passed by. Nobody suffered.

The unit on duty of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan received the information about the explosion at about 01:00 p.m. Moscow time. According to the police, no one suffered. Two cars were damaged.

The place of the explosion was cordoned off by the police units of the Russian MIA's Division in Khasavyurt, the MIA's website reports.

According to the press service of the Dagestani MIA, an improvised explosive device (IED), which detonated yesterday in the afternoon on the way of the motorcade of Saigidpasha Umakhanov, Khasavyurt Mayor, was of 6 kilograms in TNT equivalent.

According to investigators, the IED was made on the basis of 125-millimetre artillery shell of cumulative effect and of 120-millimetre mortar round. A shell crater with diameter of 3.10 m and depth of 80 cm was formed in the place of the explosion. The investigators seized from the place 32 pieces of metal fragments of the IED and the remote control of car alarm.

The criminal case was instituted under several Articles. The basic version of sabotage is the attempted murder of the Khasavyurt Mayor, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.
