In Novocherkassk, one of detained activists of The Other Russia fined by 1000 roubles

In Novocherkassk, the court fined Pavel Nagibin, an activist of The Other Russia, who was detained today, 1000 roubles under Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code "Disobedience to police." The police officers completed no protocol of detention of another detainee Sergey Cherepovsky, the leader of the Other Russia in Rostov-on-Don.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, in Novocherkassk, staff members of the criminal investigation department detained Sergey Cherepovsky, the leader of The Other Russia in Rostov-on-Don and Pavel Nagibin, a legal consultant, an activist of The Other Russia, after the court session on charges against Sergey Cherepovsky of dissemination of extremist materials and demonstration of Nazi symbols. Law enforcement officials state that the oppositionists were detained for disobeying the police.

"The police officers did not threaten us, saying that we were suspected of something. Already at the police station, they completed a protocol against Pavel Nagibin for "disobeying police" and brought him to the magistrate court. They left me at the police station and told me to sit there for a while," Sergey Cherepovsky said. He has added that the outcome of the trial was a fine of 1000 roubles.

"I believe that the fine for Pavel Nagibin was caused by the fact that he defended me at the court. However, Pavel will protect me, and he will challenge the court decision of the today's fine," Sergey Cherepovsky stated.

Valentina Tolmachova, a member of the "Republican Party of Russia-People's Freedom Party" ("RPR-PARNAS"), believes that the detentions are related to the upcoming elections to the Opposition Coordinating Council.

"There is a campaign of intimidation on the eve of the elections to the Opposition Coordinating Council. The signal, sent from Moscow (detention of Udaltsov), was joined by the signals at the local places stop your elections to the Council. You should not show people fair elections, since people had lost the habit of fair elections. The authorities do not even know that the detainees belong to the organization, which does not participate in the elections to the Council. So, they did that to report that the measures had been taken," she said.

According to her, Pavel Nagibin was likely detained to deprive Sergey Cherepovsky of his defender. "It will be very difficult for him to defend himself without a representative. To say briefly, there is lawlessness in Novocherkassk," Valentina Tolmachova has stated.
