North Ossetia: road police officer, killed in terror act, buried

Today, Beslan held a funeral of Zaur Djibilov, an inspector of the road-and-post service, who was killed in the explosion, committed at night on October 23 at the police checkpoint in the village of Chermen.

The house of the 26-year-old deceased policeman was visited by city residents, power agents of the Pravoberezhny District, staff members of public institutions, organizations and enterprises.

"Having stopped a suicide bomber at the border checkpoint in the village of Chermen, Zaur at the expense of his life prevented even greater tragedy and saved the lives of his fellow citizens. The heroic deed of Zaur Djibilov should not be forgotten," people said.

The North Ossetian police investigate several versions for the cause of the terror act.

"Today is the 10th anniversary of the terror act at 'Nord-Ost'. We know that on October 24, the big Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha begins. And October 30 is a sad date of the 20th anniversary of the armed Ossetian-Ingush conflict. And we understand that some people within the country try to destabilize the situation," said Arthur Akhmetkhanov, Minister of Internal Affairs.

"It is clear that the criminal's aim was not the checkpoint. And if at four o'clock in the morning he wanted to enter Vladikavkaz, we cannot know where he wanted to leave this car and when it would be blown up. However, without a doubt, this would lead to a large number of victims," said Taimuraz Mamsurov, the leader of North Ossetia, after the inspection of the place of explosion.
