Idris Kartoev punished for breaking regulations, UFSIN of Tver Region asserts

Idris Kartoev, a defendant in the case of blowing up the "Neva-Express" Train, was disciplined and placed into a dungeon for breaking the custody regulations, said the UFSIN (Department of the Russian Federal Correction Service) for the Tver Region.

The administration of the Tver SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) has stated to the "Caucasian Knot" that the inmate Kartoev had violated the regime of searching activities. "Now, a check is underway," said Maxim Volosatov, the acting head of the SIZO.

Later, an explanation was posted on the website of the above UFSIN: "On October 19, 2012, the convict K. was convoyed to SIZO-1 of Tver from a SIZO in Moscow. In accordance with the regulations, K. was searched, along with other convicts at the reception of the SIZO. An illustrated magazine in bright glossy cover was found among his belongings. Such literature does not refer to religious items for personal use and is not allowed for keeping by people in custody."

In accordance with the Federal Law "On Custody of Suspects and Accused Persons", the persons held in SIZO have the right to keep books and periodicals borrowed from the library of the facility, or bought through the administration of the SIZO in commercial network, said the statement of the UFSIN.

Vakha Kartoev, a brother of Idris Kartoev, has addressed Vladimir Vorobyov, a member of the Public Chamber of the Tver Region and the chairman of the Public Oversight Commission, asking to defend his brother's rights.
