In Armenia, for 10 years, number of residents decreased by 195,000 persons, census reports

According to preliminary results of the census of 2011, the number of permanent population of Armenia reached 3,018,854 persons. This was reported today at the press conference in Yerevan by Karine Kuyumdjyan, the head of the division for census and demography of the National Statistical Service of Armenia. The second census took part in Armenia on October 12-21, 2011.

According to the information, presented today, the number of residents, actually living in the country, reached 2,871,771 persons. Karine Kuyumdjyan has noted that, according to the recent census, 3,213,011 persons permanently lived in the country, of whom, 3,002,594 persons actually lived in the country.

"In comparison with the results of population census, conducted in 2001, for 10 years, the Armenian population decreased by almost 195,000 persons," stated the representative of the National Statistical Service.

Karine Kuyumdjyan has also noted that the number of urban residents decreased by 7.5 percent, and the number of rural residents by 3.4 percent. At present, the rural population comprises 36.7 percent of the total population, and urban population 63.3 percent. Meanwhile, according to Karine Kuyumdjyan, the predominant part of the population (55.5 percent) lives in the capital.
