FSIN Department recognizes mass self-injuries of prisoners in Kalmykia

Four inmates of the penal colony "Salyn IK-1" inflicted to themselves superficial cuts of their forearms and necks with blades from disposable razors to express their protest against the holding of personal search. Besides, seven more prisoners also injured themselves, and one of them was hospitalized. This was stated by the Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) of Kalmykia.

According to Nina Efremova, a representative of the international social movement "Edinstvo" (Unity), at the night of November 1-2, in Elista, in the penal colony "Salyn IK-1", there was a mass beating of prisoners by colony personnel, and, to express their protest, the prisoners cut their veins, several persons committed set themselves on fire. The FSIN Department of Kalmykia denies the information.

According to representatives of the FSIN Department, four participants of the incident, which inflicted superficial cuts to themselves, received medical assistance, and they do not need hospitalization.

Meanwhile, Nina Efremova released the names of all 49 victims in the penal colony "Salyn". "Half of the beaten prisoners represented by persons, transferred from Vladikavkaz, Adygea, Ingushetia, Volgograd, and Mozdok," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Nina Efremova.
