On October 29 - November 4, at least 12 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

Last week, on October 29-November 4, 2012, at least 12 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of these, 8 persons were killed and 4 wounded. These are the results of calculations of the "Caucasian Knot" based on own materials of the edition and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes 2 suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), all of them were killed in Dagestan, 4 civilians three of the m were killed in Dagestan and one in Ingushetia, and two power agents both were killed in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Assaults on law enforcers

On November 1, at a service station in Katkhanov Street in the city of Baksan of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), two unidentified persons attacked police officers. As a result of shelling, Police Lieutenant Mukhammed Chechenov, an operative officer of the Baksan Inter-District OVD (Interior Division), died in place. The other police officer was wounded, and a 20-year-old local resident was wounded.

On November 3, at about 12:00 a.m. Moscow time, in Kabardino-Balkaria, an operative officer for special cases of the Chief Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).

Special operations and CTO regime

Starting from 07:00 a.m. on October 30, in the Tabasaran District of the Republic of Dagestan, the counter-terrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced. On the same day, law enforcement officers traced a group of suspected militants of 5-6 persons in the mountain and forest area between dwelling settlements of Chulat and Turag. In the forest, 12 km from the village of Chulat, a man, according to the law enforcement officers, threw a grenade at them. He was killed by return fire. None of law enforcement officers suffered.

At night of November 1, near the village of Tinit of the Tabasaran District of Dagestan, a shootout occurred between police officers and a suspected militant. Police officers stopped a VAZ-21014 car to check the documents; and its driver opened fire to law enforcers, and he was killed in the shootout. The killed man was identified as Muradkhan Muradkhanov. His sister Sabina Muradkhanova, a resident of Makhachkala, claims that on October 31, her brother was kidnapped by unidentified armed men.

Explosions and terror acts

On November 4, at about 07:30 p.m., at the 430th kilometre of the Federal Highway "Kavkaz" in the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria, an explosive device was activated at the time of passage of a vehicle with military men. One soldier was injured.

On the same day, at the intersection of Tchaikovsky and Shikhsaidov Streets of the city of Buinaksk (Dagestan), a staff member of the MIA's Division was injured in the explosion of a bomb under his car.

Attacks on civilians

On October 30, at 06:25 a.m. Moscow time, in the residential district "Airport" in the city of Derbent, Karimulla Ibragimov, Imam of a local mosque, his father Ibragim Ibragimov and his brother Sefirulakh were killed. Unidentified persons shot point-blank at the Imam and his relatives, when they were going to the mosque.

Detentions

Five persons were detained on suspicion of involvement in the terror act, committed on October 23 at the road-and-patrol checkpoint at the administrative border between North Ossetia and Ingushetia. This was reported on October 29 by Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the leader of Ingushetia.

On the same day, it became known that Anastasia Alekseeva (Ganieva), the wife of Timur Khayauri, one of the leaders of the "Sunzha" armed grouping, called to the phone line for repentant members of the armed underground, created in Ingushetia. The woman, who was put on the wanted list and was suspected of involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs), came to surrender.

On October 29, a resident of the dwelling settlement of Selmentauzen of the Vedeno District of Chechnya, came to law enforcement agency and confessed that in 2004 he was an accomplice of militants and was engaged in the purchase and transfer of food to the militants.

In Dagestan, Patimat Magomedova, a resident of the village of Komsomolskoe, stated that her husband Arthur Babakov, born in 1987, was illegally detained on October 30. According to the woman, on the same day, 8-12 staff members from the Kizlyar City Police Division came to conduct a search in the house of Arthur Babakov. The search warrant indicated that ammunition was found at the house of Arthur Babakov. The woman claims that they the ammunition was planted.

On October 31, in the village of Gerzel-Aul of the Gudermes District, staff members of the Republic's MIA detained a resident of the city of Grozny and a native of the dwelling settlement of Bachi-Yurt of the Kurchaloi District, suspected of rendering assistance to members of IAFs. The detainees confessed that in this September, they bought and sent food to the militants, acting in the foothill area of the republic.

Kidnappings

On October 30, it was reported that on October 26, the remains of Zurab Agiev, a resident of the village of Plievo of the Nazran District of Ingushetia, who disappeared on October 18 together with Orts Almurziev, were found near the village of Ali-Yurt.
