Opposition's boycott not to affect work of Parliament, "Georgian Dream" asserts
According to the ruling coalition "Georgian Dream", a temporary waiver of participation in the work of the supreme legislative body of the country, declared by the oppositional "United National Movement" Party, will not affect the activities of the Parliament.
On November 7, MPs from the "United National Movement" Party decided to suspend their work in the Parliament, which is located in Kutaisi, and to return to Tbilisi.
"The work of the Parliament will be held in regular mode, all issues can be resolved without their participation. Any party has a constitutional right to boycott the work at the Parliament. Waiver to work at the Parliament can negatively affect the MPs and the very 'United National Movement' Party," said MP Tinatin Khidasheli, one of the leaders of the coalition "Georgian Dream".
"We have not declared a political boycott. We have expressed our protest in connection with the fact that during the voting, the parliamentary majority ignored our candidate to the Supreme Council of Justice, whose candidacy was presented by us on our quota. Then, it became known that Tbilisi conducts detentions of top-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defence and unscheduled inspection of the 'Public Broadcaster' TV and Radio Company, and we decided to suspend the work at the Parliament and to return to Tbilisi," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by David Darchiashvili, MP from the "United National Movement" Party.
