Armenia starts raising money for convicted Serob Bozoyan
Armenia holds fundraising for Serob Bozoyan, sentenced to a year of imprisonment for filling balloons with combustible gas methane. The funds are being raised for his medical treatment.
Serob Bozoyan was the only defendant in the case of the explosion of balloons, which occurred on May 4 in Yerevan, in Republic Square. The court verdict on his sentence to 1 year of imprisonment will come into force on November 17, if the defendant does not appeal against the court decision. At the moment, Serob Bozoyan signed a recognizance not to leave.
The idea of raising the funds was voiced by activists of the civil initiative "We demand to punish all the persons, responsible for the incident at the 'Harsnaqar' Restaurant", who coordinate their actions through the social network "Facebook".
According to activist Armen Davtyan, he got that idea, when he was informed about serious condition of Serob Bozoyan and insolvency and his family.
On November 8, Karen Manucharyan, the lawyer of Serob Bozoyan, expressed his concern about the health state of his client. According to him, Serob Bozoyan suffers from cancer.
"Serob Bozoyan needs a surgery, which costs 160,000 drams, and his family is in a very difficult financial situation, since he is the sole breadwinner," Armen Davtyan says.
On his page at the "Facebook", Armen Davtyan created a status, in which he suggested to organize fundraising and to encourage all people, who wish to provide financial assistance to Serob Bozoyan. According to him, the amount was raised during an hour.
The activist has noted that Serob Bozoyan himself has no idea of fundraising for him.
The activists plan to open a bank account to raise funds for the family of Serob Bozoyan.
