In Armenia, detained student Arutyun Mkrtchyan released from police

Arutyun Mkrtchyan, a student of the Yerevan State University (YSU), detained on September 2 during the students' protest against increase of tuition fees for higher education, was released on that very day.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 2 about 200 people took part in the protest action in Yerevan against the increase of tuition fees for higher education. Arutyun Mkrtchyan was detained for refusing to follow the demand of the police to hold the picket away from the stairs of the YSU.

Armen Malkhasyan, the police spokesman, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Mkrtchyan was released three hours after he was brought to the police, where an administrative protocol was drawn up against him.

In his turn, Arutyun Mkrtchyan said that he was released after the intervention of Tevan Pogosyan, an MP from the parliamentary faction "Heritage", who personally came to the police station.

Students plan to hold their next protest action on September 5.
