Tarki youth appeals to Ramazan Abdulatipov about situation in Karaman
Young people from the Tarki communities of Makhachkala prepared an open letter to Ramazan Abdulatipov, Acting President of the Republic of Dagestan, in connection with the situation in Karaman.
The authors of the letter repeat demands made by the gathering of the Tarki people held on August 25: to restore the Tarki District "with jurisdiction over all lands seized in 1944 for collective farms"; to allocate land plots in the Black Stones area to residents of three suburbs for their houses; to recognize Tarki Kumyks as repressed people and to compensate the damage inflicted by the state; to fulfil provisions of the laws with respect to them to guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples.
"Regarding the territories occupied by us in the Black Stones (Karaman) area, we mean to say that we will not give up the land inherited from our fathers, even at the cost of our own lives; however, we hope that you will resolve the problem in a civilized manner," the letter states.
On September 4, the letter was sent to the media.
The problem of the disputed land in the Kumtorkala District is also to be discussed by representatives of the opposite party to the conflict: delegates of three Lak Districts of Dagestan are going to hold the gathering after the election of the President of Dagestan.
