Hearing of Sapiyat Magomedova's case in Dagestan postponed till September 11

The Sovietsky Court of Makhachkala has started the consideration of the complaint lodged by the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova against the actions of the investigating authorities, which had stopped the criminal case on her beating in the building of the Khasavyurt OVD (Interior Division).

Let us remind you that on June 17, 2010, the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova was beaten by two employees of the OVD. The policemen claimed that she was the first to attack them. Both cases – against the policemen under the article on abuse of power, and against the lawyer for insulting the power officials – have been united into one; and the investigation into this united case was finished on December 28, 2011.

Today, at the beginning of the court session Magomedova asked the court to invalidate the decision to unite the cases and to stop the case against the two policemen.

"The cases were united illegally; and I've held a trial about it for almost a year. There are various court decisions," Magomedova has added. She had no documents with her, but she agreed to bring them to the next session.

Judge Guseinov decided to continue the trial after Magomedova has submitted the documents. The next session will be held on September 11, the judge has ruled.

Let us note here that the incident with Sapiyat Magomedova caused a broad resonance in Dagestan and beyond and attracted the attention of international human rights organizations.
