Armenian activists protest against reconstruction of Market Hall

On September 6, in Yerevan, the initiative group of the movement "Let's Liberate Monument from Oligarch" held in front of the Ministry of Culture a rally demanding to suspend reconstruction of the Market Hall located in Mashtots   Avenue.

The Market Hall is one of the most famous works of architect Grigor Agababyan, and it is put on the list of monuments of history and culture of Armenia.

Participants of the protest action called on staff members of the Ministry of Culture to take the necessary steps to preserve the monument of architecture. "It is in your jurisdiction to protect cultural property in Armenia. If we cannot preserve the monuments in the capital, how can we preserve them outside the city, let alone abroad?" the protesters have stated.

The protesters have once again made their demands: to bring to responsibility the owner of the Market Hall, that is, to provide compensation for the damage inflicted and return the monument to its former state, suspend the right of ownership to satisfy the above conditions. Otherwise, the activists demand to solve the problem in accordance with the provisions of the law.
