Georgia to decide fate of remaining MIA's archive materials about citizens' privacy
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia has destroyed only a small part of the unlawfully collected archive with materials about the private lives of Georgian citizens, and the fate of the remaining materials will be decide by members of the specially established commission. This was reported by Lasha Tugushi, a member of the commission. Georgian political analysts state that apart from the destruction of the archive, the current authorities should carry out appropriate investigation into the fact of the archive's existence.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 5, the Georgian MIA destroyed part of the found archive records with the materials about the private lives of citizens in the form of 144 video and photo files.
At present, the MIA still has most of the files with video and audio materials about the personal lives of citizens. The date of the meeting on the issue has not been scheduled yet. This was reported by Lasha Tugushi, a member of the commission, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Resonance".
At the time of the destruction of the archive, Irakli Garibashvili has drawn attention to the fact that, according to the MIA's information, representatives of the former authorities may have copies of the destroyed archives and can use them for blackmailing.
By destroying part of the MIA's archive, the "Georgian Dream" has demonstrated its democracy and its concern about the interests of specific individuals. This was emphasized by Nikoloz Chitadze, the leader of the "Research Centre for International Affairs and Democracy". He believes that the actions of the current Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia will be positively assessed by Western experts.
