Azerbaijan registers seven presidential candidates
In Azerbaijan, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered the leaders of four political parties of the country as presidential candidates. One more candidate was refused in registration. Thus, there are seven registered candidates to run for presidency at the election of October 9.
In particular, at the meeting held on September 11, the following candidates were registered: Araz Alizade, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, MP Gudret Gasanguliev, the leader of the "Azerbaijani Popular Front Party" (APFP), Khafiz Gadjiev, the leader of the "Modern Musavat" Party, and MP Faradj Guliev, the leader of the "Movement of National Revival" Party.
At the same time, Fuad Aliev, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, was refused registration because of insufficient number of valid signatures of voters in his favour.
On September 16, the pre-election campaign starts, and it will last till 8:00 a.m. of October 8.
We should add that the leaders of the opposition parties and movements of Azerbaijan treat as illegitimate the nomination of the current President Ilham Aliev, the leader of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan", for the third consequent presidential term.
