Moscow court leaves Djabrail Makhmudov, figurant in Politkovskaya's murder case, in custody
The petition to change the freedom restriction measure of Djabrail Makhmudov, a defendant in the murder case of journalist Anna Politkovskaya for health reasons, was declined today during the court session at the Moscow City Court (MCC). The figurant will stay behind bars.
At the session of the MCC on September 11, an ambulance was called to Djabrail Makhmudov. According to his story he had a fever and increased pain in his leg, where he was wounded during the attempt on him on August 14, when he was under recognizance not to leave.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom that the petition of the defence lawyer Murad Musaev was supported not only by the defence and the defendants, but also by Anna Stavitskaya, who is representing the victims.
However, the court chaired by Judge Pavel Melekhin found Murad Musaev's arguments that the defendant suffers unbearable pain in his wounded leg insufficiently justified. According to the judge, the court has received a medical certificate from the SIZO (pre-trial prison) that Djabrail Makhmudov can participate in the trial.
