TI: Georgia is ahead of other countries of Southern Caucasus on Corruption Perceptions Index
The international non-governmental organization "Transparency International" (TI), based in Berlin, has released its annual Corruption Perceptions Index for 2013. According to it, Georgia occupies the 55th place, Armenia the 94th place, and Azerbaijan shares with Russia the 127th place.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the Corruption Perception Index for 2012 compiled by the TI, Georgia occupied the 51st place, Armenia the 105th place, and Russia shared the 133rd place with Kazakhstan and Iran. In the last year's Index, Azerbaijan with its 27 points shared the 139th place with Nigeria, Kenya, Nepal, and Pakistan.
According to the TI's study, this year, the worst results belong to Afghanistan, North Korea, and Somalia; each of them gained 8 points. The best results were shown by Denmark and New Zealand, with 91 points for each country.
"The 2013 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that all countries continue to face the threat of corruption at all power levels, from issuing permits at local level to practical implementation of laws and regulations," the TI's website quotes its Chair Huguette Labelle as saying.
The TI's experts emphasize that the Corruption Perceptions Index compiled by the organization contains a warning that abuse of power, secret deals and bribery continue to have a devastating impact on the different communities around the world.
