Official Georgian delegation will not attend Sochi Olympics
The Government of Georgia has decided not to arrive in Sochi for participation in official activities within the Winter Olympic Games. This was announced by Prime Minister Irakly Garibashvili.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that yet on November 11, the Government of Georgia did not decide, whether the official delegation of the country will go to the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
"The official delegation will not go to Sochi. Only athletes and leaders of the National Olympic Committee will go there," the "Russia Today" TV Channel quotes Irakly Garibashvili as saying.
The primary reason for refusal to go to the Sochi Olympic Games was the reluctance of top-ranking executives of Georgia to sit in the government box of the Sochi Olympic Stadium together with the presidents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, since their independence is recognized by Russia, the "Radio Liberty" reports.
Let us remind you that on October 7, the Georgia's Cabinet of Ministers declared its readiness to review the decision to send country's athletes to the Olympic Games in Sochi, if the Russian Federation "politicizes" the issue. In late October, in Georgia, 28,000 persons signed a petition calling on the Georgian authorities to boycott the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
