Alisoy, PFPA activist, sentenced to administrative arrest in Azerbaijan
In Azerbaijan, Tyurkel Alisoy, a member of the Board of the Youth Committee of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was subjected to administrative detention for 20 days. This decision was made today by the Nasimi District Court of Baku, which found Alisoy guilty of disobeying lawful demands of policemen. The PFPA treats the accusation as politically motivated.
Tyurkel Alisoy was detained in the morning on March 5 by the police on his way to meet one of his friends.
According to Gezyal Bairamly, Deputy Chair of the PFPA, for more than 24 hours there was no information on Tyurkel's whereabouts.
The Nasimi District Court has found Alisoy guilty under Article 310.1 (disobeying lawful demands of the police) of the Code of Administrative Offences of Azerbaijan.
In the opinion of Ms Bairamly, Alisoy, like the six other party activists, arrested in recent days "on standard charges" of disobeying the police, is persecuted on political reasons for taking part in the march dedicated to the 22nd anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy.
