ECtHR starts communicating with Azeri Govt on Yagublu's case
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has accepted the complaint lodged by Tofig Yagublu, the deputy chairman of the "Musavat" Party on violation of his right to freedom. The complaint was filed in connection with Yagublu's arrest in February 2013 under the criminal case on the riots in the Azerbaijani city of Ismailly.
Nemat Kerimli, Yagublu's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the complaint had been filed to the ECtHR after his client was put behind bars on February 4, 2013. The complaint claims a violation, in relation to Yagublu, of Article 5 (freedom and personal immunity) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). On March 6, the lawyer received an official response from Strasbourg, saying that the ECtHR had started communicating with the Government of Azerbaijan on the case and suggested to answer the questions before June 9, 2014.
According to the above Article, each arrested person shall be immediately informed of the reasons and see a justified charge. However, the lawyer said, Yagublu was arrested without presenting even primary evidence of his guilt.
