Rally on 70th anniversary of Balkars' deportation held in Nalchik
Today in Nalchik, at the Memorial to Victims of Repressions of Balkar People, a rally was held to commemorate the victims of the deportation of Balkar nationals committed 70 years ago. The event was attended by about 600 people, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today residents of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) mark the Remembrance Day of the Victims of Political Repressions of the Balkar people.
The rally was opened by Ruslan Firov, the Deputy Prime Minister of the KBR, who noted that the memory of the tragic pages of the deportation "unites all the residents of the republic in the knowledge that this should never happen again."
The Vice-Premier said that the Republic's Organizing Committee had been set up, which planned to hold more than 60 commemorative events during the year – not only in the KBR, but also in the republics of Central Asia, where Balkars had spent 13 years in exile.
