In Azerbaijan, PFPA disseminates letter of arrested activist, who complains about torture
Tyurkel Alisoy, a member of the Youth Committee of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who is under arrest, claims policemen use violence against him to force him to make a confession. This was stated in a Tyurkel Alisoy's letter from the Binagadi detention facility for holding persons arrested on administrative cases. The letter was disseminated by the PFPA.
The text of the letter was published on the webpage of the Youth Committee of the PFPA in the Facebook. The letter also claims Tyurkel Alisoy is subjected to pressure by law enforcers to bring him to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in prosecution of other opposition members.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 6, Tyurkel Alisoy was arrested for 20 days on charges of disobeying police. Gezal Bairamly, Deputy Chairman of the PFPA, believes Tyurkel Alisoy, like other six party activists, is being prosecuted for political reasons, since he took part in the march on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the Khodjaly tragedy.
"We will make every effort to stop the pressure on Tyurkel Alisoy and ask human rights defenders to seriously address this issue. Our party is being subjected to pervasive repressions. In recent days, seven persons were arrested, and we were deprived of our office," Bairamly has stated.
