Investigators start checking complaint about torture of Arthur Aidinov in Cherkessk filed by his advocate
The Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for Karachay-Cherkessia has initiated checking of the complaint filed by advocate Elvira Aidinova about torture used against accused Arthur Aidinov. According to the complainant, Arthur Aidinov died in the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Cherkessk as a result of torture.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 24, Arthur Aidinov, who was arrested for two months, died in the SIZO. According to relatives of the victim and his advocate, after the detention, Arthur Aidinov was subjected to torture at the police station. An official of the ICRF reported that Arthur Aidinov's death was caused by poisoning with unidentified substance.
The complaints about unlawful actions of policemen against Arthur Aidinov were directed to the head of the Investigating Division of the Investigating Department of the ICRF for Karachay-Cherkessia for consideration on the merits. This was stated in the reply signed by the deputy head of the Division for Procedural Control of the Investigating Department of the ICRF for the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR).
Advocate of Arthur Aidinov has added that she is not confident in the effectiveness of the checking initiated.
