Rally in Yerevan demands from authorities to release political prisoners

In Yerevan, on Tuesday, a rally-march was held in support of the arrested Retired Colonel Volodya Avetisyan and other political prisoners. The event was joined by supporters of Shant Arutyunyan, who was arrested along with 13 protesters on November 5, 2013.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Volodya Avetisyan, an active participant of protests held by Karabakh War veterans, was detained on September 20, 2013, on suspicion of receiving 2000 US dollars from an official of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia for assistance to release a citizen of Armenian from military service.

The march was organized by the initiative group "In Defence of Volodya Avetisyan".

The rally was attended by several dozens of people; they demanded to release political prisoners and chanted "Freedom!", "Armenia without political prisoners!", "Free and independent Armenia!" and held corresponding posters, banners and flags of Armenia, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
