Chaika: in 2013, 173 terror crimes were ascribed to killed militants
Last year, 173 out of 408 solved terror crimes were ascribed to assassinated militants, said Yuri Chaika, the Russian General Public Prosecutor, who emphasized that in total, in 2013, Northern Caucasus saw 579 terror crimes, including nine terror acts.
At the recent sitting in Pyatigorsk on the 2013 outcomes of the work of the supervisory authorities of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), Yuri Chaika said that investigators had ascribed crimes to militants without making a proper check of their involvement.
The General Public Prosecutor also stressed that quite often judicial decisions are often based on "insufficiently confirmed evidence of citizens' participation in illegal armed formations (IAFs)."
Mr Chaika said that last year Northern Caucasus was struck by nine terror acts, which is by 80 percent more than in 2012.
Let us remind you that according to Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Investigating Committee of the Russia Federation (ICRF), in total, in 2013, Russia registered 661 terror crimes. Northern Caucasus is still having a complex situation with terrorism, said Bastrykin.
