Sochi: court ruling on refusal to coordinate rally comes into force
On Monday, March 24, the ruling took effect of the Sochi Tsentralny District Court, which stated that the inaction of the Mayoralty in reviewing the notification about a rally against discrimination of Sochi residents was illegal.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Roman Shikarev, the leader of the public movement "Law and Order", and Vladimir Kimaev, the leader of the local branch of the "Yabloko" Party, had applied for a rally to be held on February 16 against discrimination of Sochi townspeople by the place of their residence and on environmental and socio-economic problems. The Sochi Mayoralty refused to coordinate the action, demanding to reduce the applied audience from 500 to 100 people.
On February 10, Roman Shikarev went to court against the above refusal, finding it illegal. The ruling of the above court was passed on February 19. The court found the Mayoralty's inaction in reviewing the notification to be illegal.
In his turn, Shikarev now plans to apply for compensation. The Mayoralty said that this is "his right."
