On March 17-23, seven persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, during the week from March 17 to March 23, 2014, at least seven people suffered, including four killed and three wounded persons. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

All the casualties are the persons suspected of involvement in the activities of the armed underground – two in Dagestan and two in Ingushetia.

Attacks on law enforcers

On March 17, in Makhachkala, unidentified persons opened fire at policemen near the store "Tashkent". Two policemen were wounded.

Special operations and CTOs

On March 17, the Gumbet District of Dagestan was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. The special operation was conducted in a forest near the villages of Igali, Novoe Inkhelo, Novoe Araderikh and Tsanatl. Two suspects of involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed during the CTO.

On March 18, the CTO regime was introduced in the Gunib and Charodin Districts of Dagestan. An armed skirmish burst out near the Gunib ROVD (District Interior Division); the information about the victims is clarified.

On March 22, the CTO regime was introduced in the village of Plievo, Nazran District of Ingushetia. Two suspected IAF members were shot dead in Plievo at a detention attempt. According to power agents, they were identified as Bashir Dishaev and Muslim Kuriev. Dischaev was blown up by an improvised explosive device (IED), and Kuriev rendered armed resistance and was killed by power agents in the course of a fire-fight. An FSB officer was wounded in the clash.

Detentions

On March 18, Mavludin Nazhmudinov, a resident of Khasavyurt was detained at his home by policemen. He was taken to the Khasavyurt GOVD (City Interior Division) as a suspected IAF member.

Kidnappings

Back on January 22, power agents visited the house of Isa Tokaev, a resident of Grozny, and took away his son Magomed. The reason for the detention was not explained. It was reported that Magomed Tokaev was not the only detainee on that day; and policemen promised to release them after the Olympic Torch Relay. However, as of March 19, when Isa Tokaev turned to rights defenders, there was no information about his son's whereabouts.
