Kadi of Grozny obliges Imams to supervise the appearance of their mosque-goers

Imams of the mosques located in the Chechen capital should now monitor the appearance of their parishioners and submit weekly progress reports. The order was given by the new Chief Kadi (Islamic Judge) of Grozny Adam Ilyasov, who was appointed to the post a few weeks ago by Ramzan Kadyrov.

The SAM (Spiritual Administration of Muslims) of the Chechen capital has treated the Kadi's intention to strengthen control over the mosques congregation as "right and overdue." "Many of the believers, especially young ones, even for Friday prayer, come in T-shirts with colourful images, not to mention everything else. Prayer is a communion of a believer with his Creator; and people should know that they can't appear before the Almighty dressed like that," a source from the Muftiat of Chechnya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In October 2013, Chechen authorities also spoke in favour of installing CCTV cameras in mosques "in order to ensure safety."

On January 10, Ramzan Kadyrov demanded from his law enforcers to strengthen the fight with radical movements and their followers, after which the republic's power agents began en masse detaining young people wearing beards with shaved off moustaches (the followers of the Salafi trend of Islam, as a rule, wear beards but shave off their moustaches, and also roll up their trousers a little – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). This campaign continues to this day, residents of the capital of Chechnya report.
