Grozny administration checks legality of urban households and registration of land plots
On March 26, the administration of Grozny, the Chechen capital, began checking for the presence of residents in Grozny on their house and land ownership. Locals complain about extortion of money for making the necessary permits to own their real estate; however, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has treated this information as "rumours."
On March 25, the city administration held a meeting chaired by the Mayor of Grozny Islam Kadyrov, where he ordered the heads of district administrations and territorial regions to compile a complete list of legitimately registered and unregistered houses and land plots.
"The problem is that the city still has hundreds of homes, apartments and land plots, which have no official owners and properly made registration documents," a source from the city administration told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Townspeople see the decision of the city authorities as another pretext for charging them with additional payments. They say they have to pay a lot for registration of land and house ownership.
