Two ECtHR judgments on disappearances in Chechnya come into force
The decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), which recognized Russian power agents responsible for kidnappings and probable deaths of eight residents of Chechnya, entered into force on March 25.
The judgments concern the cases "Tovbulatova et al versus Russia" and "Bopaeva et al versus Russia". In both cases relatives of the missing people were the applicants.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2013 the ECtHR ordered Russian authorities to pay a total of 317,818 euros to the four applicants in the "Tovbulatova at al versus Russia" case, who are relatives of Ali Vadilov, Bulat Chilaev, Akhamdi Isaev, Magomed Edilov and Aslan Israilov, who disappeared in 2001-2006.
In November 2013, the ECtHR considered the case "Bopaeva et al versus Russia" dealing with disappearance of Sharip Khaisumov and Ramzan Alaudinov, who were detained on April 17, 2000, in Grozny, and the pregnant woman Luiza Dagaeva (Bopaeva).
