In Karachay-Cherkessia, defence motions ignored during re-investigation into Dakhir Djankezov's murder, advocate asserts
Investigation in the case on the murder of Dakhir Djankezov unreasonably rejects all defence motions. This was reported by Evgeny Kuzyur, an advocate from the Stavropol Regional Advocates' Chamber. Evgeny Kuzyur represents the interests of defendant Ruslan Rakhaev, the former deputy head of the Cherkessk GOVD (City Interior Division).
On July 8, 2013, the Cherkessk City Court found Ruslan Rakhaev guilty of abuse of power and intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm to detainee Dakhir Djankezov, resulting in the detainee's death. Ruslan Rakhaev was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment to be served in a high-security colony. The defence of Ruslan Rakhaev insisted on his innocence and challenged the verdict at the Supreme Court of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR). The Court has found the defendant's guilt unproven and sent the case for re-investigation.
According to Evgeny Kuzyur, in its definition, the Supreme Court of KChR has specified exactly what contradictions are to be solved during the re-investigation. However, according to the advocate, during the re-investigation, the contradictions are not eliminated, and all motions filed by Ruslan Rakhaev and his advocate to attach certain documents that could help in revealing the truth are dismissed.
