Armenian authorities assert that pension law will not be suspended
Despite the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC), the law "On Accumulative Pension" will remain in force until September 30 this year, state bureaucrats and members of the ruling Republican Party assert. In their turn, oppositionists believe that the CC took a too uncertain decision; they urge citizens not to allow their employers to deduct pension taxes from their salaries.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 2 the Armenian CC found the mandatory component of the new pension system unconstitutional and gave time to the legislative and executive authorities to revise the law.
The lawyer Artak Zeinalyan, who acted at the CC as a claimant, the new law can only act on the voluntary basis.
According to Vahag Avagyan, an activist of the initiatives DEM.AM, the CC "made a too uncertain decision" and reloaded the responsibility onto the National Assembly and the Government, giving them time to revise some of the provisions of the law.
In her turn, the lawyer Mary Khachatryan, who also acted at the CC session as a claimant, urged all the citizens to "stand in defence of their rights, based on the decision of the CC on the new pension law."
