From March 31 to April 6, armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed 7 human lives
During the week from March 31 to April 6, 2014, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus affected at least 18 people; of them, seven people were killed and 11 others wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes three suspects of involvement in the armed underground in Dagestan and four employees of power agencies in Chechnya.
Attacks on law enforcers
On March 31, in the yard of a house in Shogentsukov Street in Nalchik, two suspicious men were noticed; when policemen tried to check their documents, they tried to escape and threw an explosive device in the direction of the policemen. As a result of the explosion, a police officer was wounded; one of the attackers was also wounded by the response fire.
On April 3, policemen were inspecting one of private households in Shukov Street in the city of Baksan (Kabardino-Balkaria), where, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), some searched members of the local armed underground took refuge. A young man jumped out of the house and threw a grenade at the policemen. There were no injuries, but the attacker managed to escape. Later, operative agents managed to identify him as a 21-year-old local resident, suspected for a long time of aiding militants.
Special and counterterrorist operations
On April 2, the Sovietskiy District of Makhachkala was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime. In Buynaksk, in Chekhov Street, a house was blocked, where suspected militants were hiding. In response to an offer to surrender, the people in the house opened fire at law enforcers, after which the power agents stormed the house. During the assault, three members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed.
Explosions and terror acts
On April 3, during an engineering reconnaissance operation near the village of Yandi, Achkhoy-Martan District of Chechnya, an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) with an engineering outfit of the internal troops ran into an explosive device. The explosion wounded 11 soldiers, who were inside the vehicle; four of them died.
Attacks on civilians
At night on April 3, in the Untsukul District of Dagestan, masked men broke into the house of the head of the village of Kharachi Khadizhalal Ziyavudinov and beat up his wife and pregnant daughter. According to locals, the attack was a revenge of members of the armed underground, who believe that the new village head collaborates with power agents.
Detentions
On April 2, when inspecting households of four residents of the Chegem District, suspected of committing a robbery in January 2014, policemen found explosives, ammunition and drugs.
On April 2, in Chechnya, a local resident suspected of aiding IAF members was detained. Policemen believe that in 2010 the detainee provided aid to militants by purchasing and providing them with foodstuffs.
