KChR: court finds policemen guilty of beating detainee
The Ust-Djegutin District Court of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) has sentenced two OVD (Interior Division) employees, accused of abuse of power with violence, said a source from the Supreme Court of the Republic.
According to the source, in March 2011, A. Ebzeev and A. Gerbekov, district policemen of the Ust-Djegutin OVD of the KChR, brought a local resident to the police station to check his possible involvement in a theft of cattle.
According to the court, the detainee "categorically denied his involvement in the offense."
Investigators assert that one of the above policemen beat the detainee on the head with a book, while the other used a rubber stick for beating and threatened to kill him.
"As a result, the victim suffered severe physical pain and mental sufferings; he also received injuries that caused no harm to his health," the "Interfax" has quoted a source from the court today.
The court sentenced Ebzeev to 4 years and Gerbekov – to 3.5 years of imprisonment.
