Defendant Djantemirov complains about beating in SIZO
The defendant Khatiz Djantemirov was beaten up in SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Cherkessk, says his advocate Vyacheslav Merzakulov. The defendant has sent his complaints to the prosecutor's office, the head of SIZO No. 1 of Cherkessk, and the head of the UFSIN (Department of the Russian Penitentiary Service) for the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR).
Djantemirov was detained on suspicion of intentional inflicting grave bodily harm as a member of a grouping. On March 20, the suspect was convoyed from Pyatigorsk to SIZO No. 1 of Cherkessk, Vyacheslav Merzakulov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Djantemirov said in his complaints that upon arriving from Pyatigorsk on March 20 he was beaten up by SIZO employees. Besides, in fear of threats made against him, he committed an act of suicide.
In the opinion of Vyacheslav Merzakulov, his client was beaten up became of hostile attitude, as he is suspected of beating the father of a SIZO employee.
"However, my client has nothing to do with that incident; his involvement in it was not proved by investigators. The incident occurred among the KChR residents, familiar with each other. My client was at the moment near the fighters and tried to stop them," said Merzakulov.
